Antwerp Central Station

Renovation of NMBS benches

In 2023, the benches at Antwerp Central Station underwent a thorough renovation. The existing benches were dismantled on-site and brought to our paint shop for a complete refresh.

To remove the old coating, the parts were chemically or thermally stripped. They were then carefully blasted. In this way, we created an optimal substrate for a durable new coating.

For the benches that were reinstalled on the train platforms in uncovered areas, we opted for an additional epoxy primer. This extra layer provides better protection against corrosion and gives the components a longer lifespan.

The result? Fresh, completely renovated benches in a beautiful new color, ready to be used intensively for years to come. This way, travelers can once again take a comfortable seat on the familiar benches of Antwerp Central for years to come.

NMBS / SNCB

Renovation of aluminium train window frames

Many older train sets are being modernized in the central workshops of the NMBS. For dozens of train sets, a sustainable solution was chosen: renovating the existing aluminium window frames instead of having new frames produced. Between 2020 and 2024, ALMAPLAST was responsible for this renovation.

After removing the window frames, all rubber seals and adhesive residue were carefully removed. Subsequently, the frames were chemically stripped of paint and manually sandblasted. Afterwards, they underwent a chemical pretreatment that ensures optimal adhesion of the coating and good protection against corrosion.

A durable two-layer powder coating system was chosen for the finish. An epoxy primer forms the protective base, finished with a polyurethane top coating in RAL 9006. Furthermore, thanks to the anti-graffiti properties, the window frames remain beautiful for longer and are easy to maintain.

The result is impressive: fully renovated aluminium window frames that look like new again and are ready for many years of service on the tracks.

Annie Cordy Tunnel

Cable support systems infrastructure

For the renovation of the Annie Cordy Tunnel in Brussels, formerly known as the Leopold II Tunnel, a manufacturer of cable support systems called upon Almaplast's expertise in 2020 for the painting of the fastening materials.

The new cable trays and associated mounting materials were provided with a durable two-layer powder coating system. First, an epoxy primer was applied, with special attention to optimal edge coverage. On top of this came a polyester topcoat in RAL 7016, which ensures a durable and uniform finish.

The result is not only technically strong but also beautifully finished. So, the next time you drive through the longest tunnel in Belgium, be sure to look up. The components on the ceiling? Painted by ALMAPLAST. We are quite proud of that.

Event furniture

The rental of event furniture is a real business. Tables, chairs, and other furniture are used frequently and intensively, causing the coating to inevitably show signs of wear over time. At ALMAPLAST, we ensure that this furniture looks like new again.

We paint both new furniture and used furniture in need of renovation. During renovation, the existing coating is first removed via thermal or chemical paint stripping, depending on the type of base material. We then apply a new powder coating. A choice can be made between a smooth or fine-texture finish.

We can provide furniture that is also used outdoors with a multi-layer system using a primer. This provides better protection against weather conditions and intensive use.
